    xmas tv

So i'm sitting here it's not even halloween yet and i'm watching a christmas movie on the christmas channel!! I remember when xmas didn't start till december some shops got cards in the last week of november but that was it, I've decided it's not because i'm getting old that the year goes so quick it's because of the shops and tv they bring xmas earlier and earlier so by the time it comes everyone is uninterested and makes the year seem shorter there by going quicker!! Just thought I'd put my thoughts

    Two thoughts:
    Don`t watch the Christmas channel.
Turn the TV over or off.
Actually lots of other options. I solved being constantly disappointed with the TV by stopping watching it ltogether, plenty online to watch instead, and more choice too. That is without mentioning the ridiculous cost of a TV licence.
Where I do agree with you though is the earlier and earlier onset of Christmas..... usual high street major outlets responsible.
Then again, are we not just as guilty here you and I, in discussing Christmas in October?

People might not agree with me but I think your right Xmas comes far to early, I say ban all Xmas stock from shops before 1st December, stop Xmas advertising before 1st December, no public decorations before same, 25 days is more than enough for most.

Christmas is a very special Christian festival but by starting in September its losing its specialness, one third of the year is ridiculous and by the beginning of December a lot of people have had enough of it. And I'm beginning to think it's not surprising that some young children don't have a clue what it's about.

Furthermore lets re anglicise it in the UK, British children waited for Father Christmas not Santa we're not in America!

Just been having a similar rant on Facebook about Halloween. OK there were pagan festivals, Samhain etc, before there were Christian festivals, BUT the christian calender has been with us 2,000 years. What gets my goat is the "commercialisation of these seasons.
I lost it in August one year in Debenhams when I could not find a summer skirt - cuz they were getting winter stock in!!! In the middle of a heat wave!!
The whole "trick or treat" and bigging up of xmas has a lot to do with the ole US of A. Santa is simply from Saint Nicholas, one of the saints remebered around time. (orginally).
I'm all for remebering Samhain, as well as Divali, as well as other faith festivals. But lets not argue about the validity of one before the other.
As far as the church calendar Advent (the count down to xmas) begins on 27th Novenber. Right now, churches have just celebrated harvest.

In my working days I spent a few years working in a shop.
As soon as Christmas stock was on the shelves - the Easter Eggs were coming in and stocked up in the store room!

    Silly isn't it.

    Never mind,

If everything keeps getting earlier and earlier then eventually it will all be a year early and back to where it should be.

Aaaah but that's 'seasonal fashion' (Since when did clothes have a 'season)

All faiths evolve/, borrow, adopt, adapt and serve a valuable purpose for many...

. Look at non faith Sunday Worship celebrations in 2016, open Friday Prayers in mosques, non muslims welcome.

Which of these will have 'come first' in another 2000 years... ? And so life goes on

I too despise the commercial aspect.. Possibly why you find it so hard to buy me gifts! I don't 'need' material things when I have many already..

Remember the USA of A isn't old.. Its new compared to most cultures and countries, and still, in my opinion very much in its stroppy bullying gimme gimme gimme teenage years!

I'll be looking forward to the Dr Who special.. Playing random music, pulling out the odd bit of bright clothing and buggering off for some solace and contemplation, when I get bored..

Apart from the local (raid Oxfam/M&S) my xmas shopping is done for the most valued people
