WRAG frozen until 2020 (and SG not getting inflation rate rise).

You know how your benefit did not increase this year?

How about no increase for the next 4 years?

This is what is planned to happen if you are in ESA WRAG.

When this freeze to working age benefits was announced it was stated that disability benefits would not be affected.

But this was later changed to:
Working age benefits rates will be frozen for the next four years from April 2016 (this does not include Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Employment and Support Allowance Support Group component and Carer and Pension benefits and Maternity Allowance, Statutory Sick Pay, Statutory Maternity Pay, Statutory Paternity Pay, Statutory Shared Parental Pay, and Statutory Adoption Pay).

Notice anything missing there - yes ESA WRAG component.

Also notice it only mentions the SG component is excluded, so your total SG will not increase in line with inflation either.

This is because the Personal Allowance will be frozen for both WRAG and SG.

This shows once again that this government does not see ESA (especially WRAG) as a disability benefit at all, but as some kind of extended Statuatory Sick Pay for jobseekers.

The European Court of Human Rights defines ESA assessment rate as a sickness benefit until a group is awarded; once a group is awarded it regards it as an incapacity benefit.
But of course the government also think that leaving the EU means that they can ignore the ECHR as well.

And lets face it they have got away up to now with ignoring the United Nations Court of Human Rights rulings on welfare reforms.

    Worrying isn't it?

Hi nukecad, have to say knew about this in general and the way it was explained was that the difference between WRAG & Support group payment rates (I think) equates to £6 weekly difference-so any increase in SG payments relating to RPI/CPI increases is only given on this figure!

Admit don't know what the % rate for inflation or from which month this is now taken, but to receive this only on £6 difference between group payments is disgraceful (1%, 2% or 3% of £6?). As we all know, ESA, whether WRAG or SG replaced Incapacity Benefit, which as its name implies, was exactly what it was. Let's also not forget how they changed to the lesser rate from RPI to CPI, which also means people in our situation, will receive less, as was planned all along.

The worrying thing about this freeze is that it has been stated quite a lot at the moment that inflation will come up next year, especially with the whole brexit thing.

Even though it isn't officially inflation, we noticed our same shop online was about £15 more then last month and I've seen and heard a lot of people say exactly the same thing.
