Just doing some looking around (middle of the night, bored) and came across this from August 2017.

Is it realy only a year since adverts first appeared here?

We have recently updated the forum and have plans to upgrade the forum in future, adding more features and functionality. While Youreable is free to its members, running the forum does incur administrative costs and we’ll be using the revenue created from our advertising to maintain the general upkeep and development the forum.

    Comment/Feedback -
Use some of the revenue to pay a mod to work a couple of hours at weekends - removing all the spam threads/posts.
I don't know everything. - But I'm good at searching for, and finding, stuff.

Obviously they are using the extra revenue to line their own pockets instead of helping the forum.

    Hi Beau,

    Thank you for your comment.

We are a small charity - we do not receive government funding and as such are reliant on the support of the suppliers and manufacturers who list their products on our websites, along with the kind generosity of the public who make donations to us. Our vital services range from our websites, offering impartial advice and information on a large range of daily living aids, to a helpline and this forum - all of which we are committed to keeping up and running. Any revenue we make from advertising on the forum is used solely to maintain Youreable.

Personally the Advertising does not bother me as it is a necessary evil.

What does bother me is the uncontrolled SPAM. Stuff like Viagra, easy loans etc. etc. Especially when the SPAM takes over the whole board and nothing is done to remove it. I report it and report it but nothing seems to be done at all.

I have run many a forum board and this is the only one I have found where the MOD's lets unwanted SPAM stay listed for such a long time.

A MOD should me checking every day to see if there is any SPAM and remove it where and when necessary.

We know that you are a small charity but to have good MOD's watching over the Forum Board should not cost you a Penny. Every other Forum I have been involved in always used Volunteer MOD's. As they were members of the Forum they were Dedicated to keep the Forum Board Clean and Tidy and made sure other members stayed within the Forum's Rules.

This has the advantage of have a well kept Forum Board but most importantly since they were all Volunteers the cost was ZERO. This is how all the Large online game Forum Boards are run and none of them would stand for the amount of SPAM we have been suffering with over the past few months.

Just to add, that if the spam filters were up to date no spammers or very few would actually be allowed to register. They would be kicked out during the registration process.

    Hi Kodiak and Beau,

We understand the frustration regarding the spam posts - we endeavour to remove spam posts as quickly as we can during staff working hours. As mentioned above we will be re-evaluating moderator cover in due course.

We won't comment on spam filters here on the forum. However, we can say further development on the forum is scheduled in - please bear in mind though that our web developers are not only working on this but are also responsible for four other DLF websites, one of which is currently be redeveloped and ready for launch shortly.

I would have thought your advertisers would be appalled about the amount of spam affecting this site and would also have thought before you "redevelop" another DLF website priority should be given to sort out this one, perhaps your other sites are being affected in a similar way.
Numerous forum members have offered to moderate why oh why has this not been taken up.
    Again, just sayimg.

    Hi Phillee,

We will re-evaluating moderator cover in due course, this includes the possibility of recruiting external volunteer mods. We are unable to elaborate further at this stage - more information will be made available if and when we are ready to proceed with this.
