    ENCTS disability bus pass Renewal.

I'm asking a question for once.

I have an ENCTS disability bus pass which is due to expire soon. (1st April)

I understand that I should shortly be getting a renewal 'pack', but just looking at the renewal guidance online (downloaded PDF) it says:
You will need to provide up to date proof of your disability.
Realy? So I have to make an appointment to see a neurologist just to get another letter to say that I shouldn't drive because of epilepsy?
They clearly state that a GP letter is unacceptable, it has to be a specialist/consultant.
Do they actually insist on wasting NHS time like this?

I'll wait and see just what the renewal pack says, but does anybody have any experience with renewing their pass?
I don't know everything. - But I'm good at searching for, and finding, stuff.

This an interesting one on Cambridgeshire: https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/re...free-bus-pass/ they only seem to say they need the proof once.

I usually just renew online with scanned copy of letter saying esa/pip, are they referring to 1st time applicants of the bus pass? Have you rang them and asked hope you get it sorted

I"ve not rang them, I'll wait for the 'pack' first to see what it says

That guidance is from the ENCTS online website, I'll try to give a link later.
It only applies to disability passes. Obviously OAP passed only need proof once.

I"m aware that different councils have different qualifying disability rules and they tell ENCTS to issue the first one.
But I'm not sure just who does the renrwals.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Here is that link to the PDF on the NoWard/ENCTS website:
    http://www.nowcard.org/pdf/DisabledGuidance.pdf

I note that this is the North West scheme for Lancashire/Cumbria, other schemes will probably have different rules.

    It clearly says:
    Dear NoWcard Holder

    Renewal of your NoWcard

Your existing English NoWcard National Concessionary bus pass expires soon.
Please follow the instructions below and any additional instructions printed on the
back of your form to renew your pass.

    Proof of Disability
You will need to provide up to date proof of your disability.
    • Please follow the instructions printed on your form and see overleaf for details of
    the evidence required.
and then on the left under G: Driving it says at the bottom:
As recommended by the DfT, in order to avoid compromising the doctor/patient
relationship, using an applicant's GP to verify that an individual meets the criteria for
a concessionary travel pass is regarded as an unsatisfactory arrangement for both
the GP and the administrators of the scheme. Therefore evidence will only be
accepted from a medical professional, specialist, occupational therapist or
    consultant confirming your disability.
I'll wait and see what the renewal pack says.
(If one arrives it should have been here by now).

    More on this.

I've managed to talk to the council and they say that yes they will need new proof.

I pointed out that it could take months to get an appointment with a specialist, just to waste the NHS's time and money repeating what he has already said.

Their reply - "We'll accept a letter from your GP".

But your own guidance clearly says that you won't accept a letter from a GP, it has to be a specialist.

    "Oh no, we'll accept a GP's letter.

So it seems they can ignore one requirement when they like, but not the other?

I'll see what the renewal pack says when it comes.

Now the question is is it worth renewing if the doctor is going to charge for a letter just to say that I shouldn't drive?
I only really use the pass to go to the hospital or the jobcentre anyway, and can claim those fares back in other ways.
(Which reminded me to check, my HC2 expired last week. Time to get a new one).
