Abacus OT-led assisted bathing seminar gains impressive attendance at OTAC Reading

Supported by Abacus Specialist Bathroom Solutions, Adam Ferry, Occupational Therapist, has presented his latest well-attended CPD seminar entitled 'A client centred approach to bathing' at OTAC Reading.

OTAC regional exhibitions (Occupational Therapy Adaptation Conferences) provide a unique showcase of products and services for accessible housing adaptations, alongside a comprehensive CPD-accredited educational programme for OTs.

At OTAC Reading, over 50 healthcare professionals attended the Abacus seminar to understand more clearly the clinical and legislative evidence to support accessible bath justification and funding for disabled bathers. Adam delivered an engaging and interactive session where delegates were able to explore the benefits of bathing verses adapted showering, as well as the benefits to OTs of prescribing a specialist bath for clients.

This session, which provided practical and theoretical techniques to ensure client-centric bathing, represented part of the ongoing training programme provided by Abacus. Its free 'Lunch & Learn' bathing workshops offer invaluable insight into the latest guidance regarding bather and carer safety. Content focuses on reducing risk during bath transfers and methods to enhance dignity, comfort and engagement for bathers. Equally, safe moving and handling for carers is also detailed so that musculoskeletal injuries can be avoided.

Many of the delegates who attended Adam's seminar took the opportunity to visit the Abacus exhibition stand to discover more about this trusted accessible bath manufacturer. On stand 07, Adam and Regional Assessment Manager, David Bertorelli, demonstrated the new Gemini 2000 hi-lo bath. This 2-metre long bath is the largest platform bath available on the market and delivers future-proof bathing for children and adults. It encompasses a unique 'double-lift' and an integrated drying and changing platform so awkward transfers are eliminated whilst offering safe working heights for carers. The Gemini 2000 also pioneers with built-in 24/7 infection control. Of particular importance for protecting vulnerable bathers, this BioCote antimicrobial technology delivers 99.9% protection against harmful microbes such as Influenza H1N1, E.coli, Salmonella and antibiotic resistant MRSA.

Abacus will be exhibiting at the next OTAC event to be held at the Hilton Hotel Ageas Bowl, Southampton, 11th September 2019. Read more...
