Thread: No assessors report after a week?

No assessors report after a week?

My wife had her assesment last week after only a month of sending her application in for PIP.
It's been 8 days, so we decided to ring and ask for a copy of the report, but the lady on the phone said they hadn't received it yet!
She said this was weird because they normally receive it within two days.

What could be the reason for the hold up - are they gathering medical evidence from her doctors or specialists?
It can't be down to being busy because she has her assessment so quickly, so I'm assuming there's no backlog?

I wouldn't worry about this just yet.

I had my phone assessment with Capita on June 5th and I received a text from the DWP saying they'd received the report on June 15th, so 10 days.

I called the DWP to try to get a copy (unsuccessfully) and they told me that the time taken for them to receive the form depends if the report has been chosen for audit at Capita. If this is the case, it can sit in audit for 4-5 weeks they said, during which time not much can be done other than wait unfortunately.

    Thanks for replying.
We're also in a Capita area.

Yes, there is no time limit for the auditing process, the policy is basically it takes as long as it takes.

I think the thinking behind it as that the auditing should be under no type of time pressure with the aim of getting the highest quality report possible.

If the DWP has you mobile number they usually send you a text message telling you when they have the report back from the assessor.

It'll be interesting to know if you're successful in getting the report copy in advance of a decision letter. I've tried more than once without success - they simply told me they're not sent out until a decision is made as the report can go back and forth to the assessor and change. They also directed me to websites advising this.

I've successfully managed to get the report before the decision several times before for my own claims. Strange that is.

yes try again, when I got the text saying they received the report, I rang them and the lady agreed to send it out the same day.

The DM agreed with the recommendation mostly, the only change was an extra year added.

    Update...

I called again on Thursday morning to request a copy of the report and this time the operator said she'd send it out. It arrived this morning, very efficient I thought.

So, I'm still waiting for a decision from the DWP but I've checked the descriptors that Capita have ticked against the points system on the Benefits and Work website. Most of what the assessor has said in her justifications is correct with just a few points missing, but what she has said doesn't always match the descriptors ticked.

For example, she has said that I need help cooking anything other then cereal/toast or something very quick due to pain from standing and urgent toilet needs which would make leaving the kitchen unsafe. However, the descriptor ticked says I need an aid or appliance, not supervision or assistance.
Another example, regarding toilet needs she has said that I need need assistance with this but has used the word sometimes, even though I made it clear this was once daily at least. However, the descriptor ticked again only says I need to use an aid or appliance, not assistance.

This obviously makes quite a bit of difference with the points scored. Is this a common occurrence? Is there any way to explain this to the DWP before they make their decision or do I need to wait and then raise a MR if necessary?
