    Drive from wheelchair

I need my first ever drive from wheelchair car.

I am shocked to see that Motability Advance Payments start from £9,000.

I am unable to get a grant as have money in the bank which I am using to adapt my home so it is wheelchair friendly (can't get a Disabled Facilities Grant either) - make sure you spend every penny as it is earnt - spent all my life doing nothing but working and paying off my mortgage - stupid me!!!!

Any ideas for a suitable car please? Don't want anything too big - just me, my electric wheelchair and one passenger is fine.

Sorry I can't be more help than this (I have no experience with the vehicles you are after) but from searching "wheelchair vehicles specialist" in Google I found this site which may be of help: http://www.gmcoachwork.co.uk/Used.html there are several others, maybe try and find one close to you so you can call in and see them?

You can also use the Motability scheme for nearly new WAVs, which may be more affordable for you http://www.motability.co.uk/cars-and...early-new-wavs

Hello Paul - thanks for the link - I was wondering if second-hand vehicles were available.

However, struggling to find Drive from Wheelchair - all I can find at the moment seem to be for passenger wheelchair access.

    Will keep hunting!

Though its undoubtedly true to say that mobility vehicles designed for wheelchair access exist, like AM General's MV-1 these generally relegate the wheelchair user to backseat passenger. Vehicles that do allow a wheelchair behind the controls are expensive made-to-order conversions of people carriers and mini-buses. The Kenguru is about as far from a people carrier as it's possible to get, being a small nimble electric vehicle, but one designed specifically for quick, easy access by, and driving from, a wheelchair. Its makers claim it is the first drive-from-wheelchair electric car.
