    Working Tax Credit Confusion

I got a letter today from HMRC telling me I may qualify for Working Tax Credits if I meet certain criteria, namely:

    • I'm still working 16 hours or more (no)
    • I have a disability that means it may be hard to get a job (yes)
    • I'm getting or have had another benefit such as ESA (yes)

I'm confused because I didn't think you could qualify for ESA if you are working more than 16 hours per week. Or am I just being thick?

those are standard letters so a bit catch all. a person who is part of a couple could could claim wtc if a partner was working but also note it says "have had" as there are rules which help those who have been getting esa claim tax credits by accessing the disability element.
