out and about - what are you up too

I'll have to get my skates on as I'm attending an AGM tonight - zzzz. But there's a buffet laid on and a social gathering afterwards. What is known as a 'networking opportunity' hmmmm - a natter!!!

Better be off to miss the traffic!

Just got through another tornado drama with one of my girls - in the space of one afternoon she's gone from being threatened with homelessness and fearing she'd lose 2 jobs (one she has already and another she's due to start in a week or so) to being able to keep the status quo on the job front and she's found a place to live - she had an interview for a different job, got the job, explained her situation, and was offered the flat above the premises. Result or what? So now, breathing a huge sigh of relief and settling down for a quiet evening with hubby.

Not much, been to exercise class today, & wrote some bad poetry - keeps the old brain working says the Doc - me writing poetry/verse is unheared of , until now,

So as I'm new, I thought I'd put this poem / verse on the forum, just to explain why I am here in the first place :

    Popping Pills.

There was a day in 84
When my whole world went through the floor
Cause crashing out of the sky I came
And someone else was to blame

I ended up with broken bones
On an airfield not too far from home
The US Air Force were my saviour
I can only thank them for their brilliant behaviour

When I arrived at the hospital, to be fair
The wife and kids were already there
they'd been advised to get there quick
The taxi must have gone at a hell of a lick

If he lives I heard them say
He'll be kept in here for many a day
If he lives what do they mean
On that prognosis I wasn't keen

Well I wasn't going to let me die
    Operations came and went by
morphine went in through my vein
Taking meds became the name of the game

Only 15 days and I was out
Popping 10 maybe 12 pills or there about..
Without them life would just be hell
And then yup, and then another tale to tell

In the garden I picked up a tick
Which made me ill , so very sick
More drugs were given in my arm
More pills to pop but what's the harm

They cured me of that Lyme Disease
So Popping pills ,oh yes , 'yes please'
Without these little bits of magic
Things really could have been quite tragic

And then and then, to top it all
Who do you think came to call
Yup Mr. Parkinson and his damn disease
And Lots more pills to give me ease

Popping pills has now become my life
Without them though there'd be more strife
So the moral here though 'not quite Hamlet'
If you want a life 'poor Yorick ' keep taking ' the tablet'

I have been doing some writing. Nothing in particular, but..I'm happy with it.

In fact, I'm going to share it with a friend and get his opinion on it in the very near future. He seems to think I have the potential to become some sort of writer.

I've booked myself to go on a free course tomorrow that starts at 10am in Southport - about 60 miles away.

SIA Funding and Managing your Care Needs Training Course

I want to get more ideas about funding and tricks of the trade.

    It covers stuff like

    • Social care funding (the personalisation agenda, direct payments, the Independent Living Fund)
    • Preparation for assessments (structuring your care and the daily care plan)
    • Sources of personal assistance (non-specialist and specialist agencies and direct employment options)
    • Decision support tool used for assessing CHC funding
    • Case studies of SIA members
    • Primary health need and care domains
    • Preparation and the qualification process
    • Joint funding and controlling your funding (direct payment) and dispute resolution

Part 2 of the course is held next Saturday. At least it's a nice drive getting there and there's a free lunch. I might even learn something!
