Have to say from now to Xmas i avoid shopping.....normally reasonable stores stick extra displays in, narrowing aisles and making it impossible for wheelchairs. Scooters Ha! wouldn't have a chance. And crowds OMG.....i want a red flashing light to clear a path thru the ppl who somehow imagine i will vanish in 30 seconds.

Still Could Do Better. A lot better. Shopping is an arse at Xmas..

I was once impressed by our local Halifax Building Society when they were planning on refurbishing the local branch.

They invited disabled people to a special survey to identify what was important to disabled people to remove physical barriers.

We were all given £30 plus travel costs, food.

The end result was pretty good what with automatic opening doors and level access. Disabled toilet facilities. Lowered counter for wheelchair users Induction loop system at each counter. Plus 'disability awareness training' for the staff.

So things can change. But it needs commitment from the company to work with the local community to iron out disabling access issues.
